Placements: Student Engagement

Since its tenure VOiD has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the University of Wolverhampton, Birmingham City University and many other educational institutes. VOiD has had the pleasure of welcoming a vast amount of students from a variety of courses and skillsets. Artists, Programmers, Musicians and Designers to name but a few.

The team at VOiD know how daunting it is to leave education without the relevant experience, this coupled with the fact they are based at the Science Park a mere stone’s throw from the city centre makes VOiD the perfect fit for graduates looking to improve their job prospects.

As part of the ongoing relationship with the University of Wolverhampton, we have participated in yearly lectures with the Games Development Course, which was the course our very own Chris undertook during his studies. Part of this is information about ourselves, how VOiD came to be etc. and then opens up to a Q&A session which gives the learners chance to ask us any questions they may have about the industry or even just general advice about the best course of action to take upon finishing university.  We have also done work with the City Of Wolverhampton College students via presentations, pitches and industry talks.

Recently we did a video with Dave highlighting what we have done for the university and vice versa, watch it for yourself here;

We have also had the pleasure of welcoming two students from Birmingham City university on full one-year placements. Both of these so far have been from Computer Science and have helped us with a variety of projects. These placements have proved fruitful to both VOiD and the learner, providing a foot in the door for the learner and a helping hand with projects for VOiD.

We have also welcomed International students, specifically from Nova College in the Netherlands. These students have helped with projects relating to web design and mobile applications. The students who have worked with us have all gone on to higher education or have jobs in the industry. You can find out more about International Placements here.

Here at VOiD, we want anyone who comes through our doors to feel like a part of the team, regardless of whether its for a week or a few months. Working alongside VOiD, work placements offer a chance to work in a fast-paced, rapidly moving working environment, working as a team and individually to complete tasks to the highest level.

Here’s what some of our previous placements had to say about us:

“I was overjoyed when I was able to work at VOiD Applications as an Intern to follow up nicely after I had finished my Computer Games Design degree at the University of Wolverhampton. I filled the role of an Info Graphic designer for many of VOiD’s communicative tasks for a year. The tasks they gave me always had intuitive approaches to them and were always well explained. A professional environment with a lot of patience, help and confidence building. I always felt welcomed at VOiD and wish to work with them again.”
Shania Hall

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement and have learnt a lot about developing apps on a commercial level. The staff at VOiD Applications were really supportive throughout my placement. I have been able to put my skills into practice in a professional working environment which has allowed me to build my confidence. This has helped me to achieve my learning outcomes of becoming a better programmer and having a general understanding of how a company within this industry functions. As I am aspiring to get a career in software development the most valuable thing that I have gained from my placement is practical experience.”
Gurpindervir Singh Rai. You can find out more about Gurpindervirs’ placement here.

“It was always a daunting task the thought of studying in a different country. When I first got to VOiD I found the staff to be really helpful and extremely supportive throughout my placement. During my time here I was able to increase my knowledge of web technologies and mobile applications whilst working in a professional environment.”
